Ed Dale Mankini Quick Post

By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

I will gladly wear Ed Dale's Mankini after the 30DC introduced me to a nice little content management / blog management mob Wordpress Direct

I just set up my first site in the 30Dc and all of that crud that comes with writing say... 12 posts up front and trawling the internet for keyword based content IS OVER.
NEVER again!!

The Wordpress Direct service removes all of that hassle. So much so that over the weekend I will be setting up another 5 SITES at least!

Now I won't kid you, some of the installation is a real bitch. My current host is not a CPanel providor so I had to sign up with one that did (gladly used Caroline Middlebrook's affiliate link for BlueHost). Then there was the hassle of putting the php.ini for ionCube in each of the application folders... and then there was setting up the automated bits, the ads, a welcome post...

Sheesh it must have taken me all of... about 90 minutes!  Thing is, now I know what to do...should take me about 20 minutes a go next time :)

Oh and MY GOD their choice of web design is ATROCIOUS what IS that abomination to the eyes?!?!?!  Thing is, what their site looks like doesn't matter a damn as long as mine don't look like something that came out of my cat's rear end.

I am chortling! Seriously mwuahahahahaha

If you are at all into creating niche sites then go sign up... now!!!

Ed Dale Mankini The War Is Over

User photo not available Saturday, 02 August 08 - 10:03 PM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Well lovers of the Ed Dale Mankini, time has come to focus entirely on the Thirty Day Challenge and let this blog and the other posts about mankini madness slip.

A few observations before I go for 30 days.

  1. Somehow some people thought Ed Dale was writing this blog...erm no. The blog has been written by Allison Reynolds
  2. Don't use the events in the "Ed Dale Mankini" search term as real-life examples of what happens on a day to day basis in a search term, but do take it as a very concentrated version of what can happen over time. Keep watching your niche!
  3. Some surprising results need looking into ... how Ed Dale's own blog entry dropped from position 1 to position 40+ in an hour. The squidoo lens that seemed to be banned from the results altogether, then was back for a few hours, then banned again. That my personal blog kicked butt for the search term across the whole of the experiment (very much think that anything with an xml site map will always kick the bum of any web 2.0 that doesn't in the long term)
  4. How SEO professionals vs amateurs showed that an amateur can rank as well, or in my case better, than those supposedly making a living from this type of thing. The teachings of the Thirty Day Challenge and Ed Dale work.

So here we leave this for the moment. I think I will pop back in Thirty Days to see what is going on ... but in real life for this blog to remain ranking you really do need to keep posting. My prediction, this will fall to 20+

Keep watching my personal blog for my Thirty Day Challenge updates!

Ed Dale Mankini - Interesting Google Trends Info

User photo not available Thursday, 31 July 08 - 11:41 PM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Now I am not suggesting the Ed Dale - Mankini Man does a lot of vanity searching, but Google Trends does say an awful lot of people in Melbourne are searching Google for "Ed Dale"...

There again, that is compared to how many Melbournites are searching for Mankini, and I can sort of see how that would not be a popular mode of clothing in the freezing southern city.

Ed Dale Mankini - What A Difference a Link Makes

User photo not available Thursday, 31 July 08 - 12:28 PM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

If you don't link to something that is all about (or even a LITTLE about) Ed Dale Mankini when you are running an Ed Dale Mankini site then you can expect your Google listing to drop.

Exhibit A ) the first and only link out of a post to an external page. That page is my affiliate  link to the sales page for the Thirty Day Challenge.

Put it in and whammo! Drop down the search results.

Quick experiment. I have removed the link and replaced it with a link to the Google search for the term Ed Dale Mankini.

Sleep for 8 hours and see what happens

Ed Dale Mankini - Tomorrow is the BIG Day

User photo not available Thursday, 31 July 08 - 02:39 AM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Greetings Ed Dale Mankini fans! August 1st is the big day and I am as excited as spit on a hot griddle.

Sure tomorrow is Ed Dale Mankini day, but it is also the first day of the Thirty Day Challenge.
You see the one thing this whole Thirty Day Challenge exercise proves is that ANYONE, even a full time working mum with Multiple Sclerosis (that's me) can make things happen on the internet with a little know-how. Same as you can.

Now the thing that might put you off doing the same is that you might think that you aren't good enough, that it is all too hard. You and I know that is just an excuse. Name one single crud thing you have done that is EASIER than spending some time learning about how to make money on the internet? If you can name ONE then you are just not cut out to be doing this.

Point blank, simple as, give up now. Why bother?

Seriously what are you doing wasting the precious minutes of your life (and we all have a finite amount of those minutes) doing something that you don't like, and won't use in the future. Go do whatever TURNS YOU ON.

I won't judge you, and neither will anyone else, you are making a MATURE DECISION on how to spend your life.

For those of you that get EXCITED like me at the prospect of learning something new in an area that gets me all AROUSED (not in a sexual way!) then jump in the deep end with me and let's have fun seeing what our limits are.

Whether you are joining the Thirty Day Challenge or not, go to Google tomorrow and type in Ed Dale Mankini.

So What Happened to the Ed Dale Mankini Squidoo Lens?

User photo not available Wednesday, 30 July 08 - 03:48 AM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Things aren't looking good for the Ed Dale Mankini Squidoo lens.

Seems it has been totally wiped from the Google cache and one can only wonder why?

We know that Squidoo itself will rank for the term because http://www.squidoo.com/groups/Thirtydaychallenge comes up in the broad search for Ed Dale Mankini.

Other platforms that are ranking are
FriendFeed - definite MUST HAVE for getting your name/site/product out there
.wordpress.com blog - they are doing well for only a few mentions of the search term and a few links.
Digg - definitely a traffic generator if you have something worthwhile to say or share
StumbleUpon - same as above

I think one of the clues may be in this..... this blog has NO outgoing links in any posts. None. Zero. Nada. Not by design by the way... somehow I have managed to break them (probably by trying to force them to open in a new page).  So to Google this blog looks like a bunch of information with a heap of links pointing to it. This site is the pointy bit at the bottom of a funnel. People are giving the site authority by linking to it ....interesting hey?

Whereas from memory the squidoo page had a gazillion links via feeds. I could be totally wrong, but maybe Google sees that many links as just a bot type content scraper (or similar?).

Ed Dale Mankini Terapad Traffic Source Graff!

What I found MOST suprising in the stats... the STUMBLE traffic looked at the most pages after landing on average !

Ed Dale Mankini - Banned!

User photo not available Tuesday, 29 July 08 - 09:30 PM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Ouch! Ed Dale Mankini fans will be disappointed to see that the Ed Dale Mankini Sponge Bath Game was BANNED due to violating the terms of service.

Apparently it was deemed to be

<violation type :mild sexual content>
<Rub hard to remove the mankini from your sight!>

Erm... Ok.  I would have thought it violated the following
Transmit or facilitate distribution of Content that is harmful, abusive, racially or ethnically offensive, vulgar, sexually explicit, defamatory, infringing, invasive of personal privacy or publicity rights, or in a reasonable person's view, objectionable. Hate speech is not tolerated.

LOL

Anyway no biggie. In a real world situation I would have uploaded whatever content I created (or had created) to my own site. Another reason for making sure you own the hosting rights for what you publish online.

Ed Dale Mankini Game a Hit!

User photo not available Monday, 28 July 08 - 09:32 PM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Yep people love the Ed Dale Mankini Sponge Bath game.

But still I made a boo-boo! That page should have also reminded people about Ed Dale Mankini Day!  No good getting a heap of traffic to the site without using it to remind them of what is going on. You can't  just rely on people poking around your site for them to see what you want them to see.

The smartest thing would have been to put the reminder IN the game itself.  As damage control I will put it in the blog post itself....but the horse has bolted well and truly on that one. Silly me!

Oh thought you might want to see the analytics on the blog.

edit: I TOTALLY forgot that Terapad has the cool sticky post feature!  Ed Dale Mankini day is now STUCK

Ed Dale Mankini Erection Problems?

OK this is weird but until today the only adsense ads that appeared on the Ed Dale Mankini search were direct Ed Dale ads...

So how (or more to the point why) would their be some new ads suddenly popping up.  Could it be the extra traffic to that search term (if yes how do they know?). Could they have always been there but I have not seen them at the beginning of their cash-per-day cycle? I don't know... do you?

Interesting.

Ed Dale Mankini Blog In For A Bumpy Ride

User photo not available Saturday, 26 July 08 - 12:10 PM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

LOL at the Ed Dale Mankini search term at the moment.

With so much activity we have some really strange things happening. Things that would not be happening in your niche in real life unless you are riding the wave of a new interest and there are many sites jostling for supremacy.

My other blog is back in #1 spot because a few blogs also playing with the Ed Dale Mankini search term have linked to me (adds authority) and the last Ed Dale Mankini story I did (adds appearances of search term).

I note that there has been some social bookmarking of this site (thanks guys!) which should kick in as we go along as long as the bookmarking is regular and not one large clump then silence.

Still don't know what happened to the Ed Dale Squidoo lens that Eric was running. This blog's "disappearing" was for 5 days, let's see what happens with that lens's.

Ed Dale Mankini Day is coming along with influencers engaged (thanks guys!) and people are getting into the fun of it all.

Remember what i said about appearing on both community pages lists? Managed to get there yesterday and regular posting and traffic will keep us there.

Ed Dale Mankini - Call To Action Day

User photo not available Friday, 25 July 08 - 10:55 PM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Ok Ed Dale Mankini fans, today will be a two pronged effort.

First will be to get the Ed Dale Mankini Day word out (imagine in real life this is a store opening/big sale/ anything you want to promote as an event), and the other is to get people naturally socially bookmarking the site.

This is going to be doubly harder because I am talking about the intention behind what I am going to do here. Poeple don't like to be "told" what to do, they want to think they thought of it themselves, or that they are part of a naturally occuring phenomena. So anything that happens here will be a little contrived.

To motivate people to do things you need to approach their influencers. They don't need to be direct influencers either. If I got some semi famous TV star to make a guest post here or on their own blog about the event then the snowball starts moving.

In this case I am going to approach the influencers in our Ed Dale Mankini world.

Also you want to ensure you have more than a week to do this, but less than a month. Excitement and motivation can last only so long.

Ed Dale Mankini Day!

User photo not available Friday, 25 July 08 - 06:47 AM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Let's have a bit of fun with Google and make Ed Dale Mankini stand out like ...well like things that stand out.

The plan: have as many people as possible type the search term Ed Dale Mankini into Google and watch the results in Google Trends...

Recently the naughty boys and girls at 4Chan decided to make a swastiki and an upside down rude message to Google the targets for thousands of searches. This meant a spike in the normal search traffic for those terms and lo and behold the HOTNESS for the terms shoot up to VOLCANIC.

I say we do the same. Nothing like getting a little more "pubic"..oops I mean "public" with this meme!

When: August 1st - 6pm East Coast US time

How: Type ED DALE MANKINI into Google and hit search

Easy!

Ed Dale Mankini Terapad Blog #1!

User photo not available Thursday, 24 July 08 - 10:43 PM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Yep all you Ed Dale Mankini lovers read it and WEEP! Terapad is back on the Google search pages and it has SMASHED Squidoo.

Wahey! Told you that Terapad is a killer platform!

Now to keep it where it is I will need to keep posting ... that's cool. It fits in with what you should do anyway. Posting quality of course. This little fun blog is chock full of nonsense, but in the REAL world you should be getting your gobbets of information and post post post.

Now the next thing that comes from Terapad (apart from the traffic from the community pages) is that their images rank really well as well. In fact I get about 100% traffic for one of my blogs from the images alone! Think about whether your niche is a visual one....think hairstyles, cars, houses etc

Till tomorrow!

Ed Dale Mankini and the Terapad Community

User photo not available Sunday, 20 July 08 - 09:01 AM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

You might remember a few posts ago on the Ed Dale Mankini blog I talked about the benefit of getting on the community pages.

I checked in this afternoon and can see that the update I did earlier has bumped this blog to #7 on the frequently updated list. Awesome! As i mentioned before, these two lists generate free traffic from other Terapad users and casual browsers.

Compared to the random Blogger blog button browsing, this wins hands down for anyone that is willing to be creative with their blog title in the beginning, and put the time into updating.

Once you have a well trafficked blog and it starts appearing in the "most popular" list you gain another boost in traffic. During the 30DC and after, last year, I had 2 blogs that were in both lists, was great for getting extra eyeballs.

So saying that, I am a big believer in non-targeted traffic is crap traffic. Anyone can get bucket-loads of visitors if they really try, but getting the RIGHT ones takes skill. Make sure that is you are using a SEO "expert" they aren't some hack who will try to convince you that thousands of bouncing visitors is better than 100's of buying customers.

Ed Dale Mankini Hits The Google "Disappearing"

User photo not available Saturday, 19 July 08 - 10:13 PM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Yep as happens to all new sites the Ed Dale Mankini blog has gone for its little rest in the backyard of Google somewhere.

This happens to everyone and is not to be worried about. It will pop back in the search results and when it does we can look at where and how the social bookmarking would be most beneficial.

At this stage we can see that Google has done a shift with the Digg entries for all links moving down the list with Flickr and Squidoo doing well.

Ed Dale Mankini - Tick Tock

User photo not available Friday, 18 July 08 - 08:32 AM (GMT)
By eddale mankini in Ed Dale Mankini

Checked in this morning on the Google Search for Ed Dale Mankini at 6:04am. No surprise to me, but probably would be for those people who are dubious about this blog platform...

The blog was at position 7... not bad not bad at ALL.

I wonder if anyone actually taking notice of what is happening here. I still have 24 hours before the Google Analytics come up and I was too...lazy, to put in a Statcounter project.

Well, next step is to RSS straight into FriendFeed. I am leaving the bookmarking alone at this stage. BUT someone (Justin73) has already Dugg a post, which is pretty impressive as hey  (from what i can tell ) are nothing to do with the Ed Dale Mankini phenomena or the Thirty Day Challenge
